The
zoning code serves two purposes. First it explains the zoning
rules that apply to each of the zoning Districts. These rules
establish a list of permitted land uses in each District plus a
series of specific standards for the permitted land uses that
govern lot size, height of buildings, required yards and
setbacks from property lines and right-of-ways. Second, the code
sets forth the procedures for administering the zoning ordinance
and establishes the roles and responsibilities of the zoning
applicants, Zoning Administrator, Regional Planning Commission,
Zoning Board of Appeals and Elected Officials.
Since 1978, it has been the stated policy
of the County of DeWitt through its Department of Planning and
Zoning & DeWitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department to
condition the issuance of any building permits upon the Health
Departments approval of the plans and provisions for proper
handling of water.
Copies of the DeWitt County Zoning Code
and DeWitt County Subdivision regulations may be obtained on
line, or by contacting the Planning and Zoning office.
Other duties of this office include
Floodplain management for the unincorporated areas, Plat officer
and Subdivision review.
